OPP in the West Region, which includes all of Grey Bruce say they laid nearly 50 charges during a snowmobile safety campaign.
Police say, “This winter’s snowmobiling conditions are just about perfect, some of the riding behaviours seen on area trails are not.”
From the 10th to 17th of this month, they laid 49 charges including two for impaired, two muffler charges and 38 documentation charges related to permit, licence, registration, insurance.
The week-long campaign targeted riding behaviours that lead to death, injury and property damage both on and off Ontario snowmobiling trails.
Police say, excessive speed as well as alcohol impairment continue to be the leading contributing factors in fatal snowmobile collision in Ontario.
