Grey Highlands is going to consider having the Director of Transportation award a contract to conduct emergency repairs to the West Back Line Bridge.
Manager of Infrastructure Mason Bellamy says staff were recently notified of damages to the bridge located over the summer.
An inspection discovered the loss of barrier protection and the potential failure of the barrier.
Bellamy says in a report, the municipality will need to repair the bridge before the winter season, or the bridge would not be able to operate.
Three options are being presented to address the damages, either conduct minor repairs to the barrier, minor repairs to the barrier and concrete repairs to the abutments, or replace the barrier system, the approach guide rail, and to the abutment.
Bellamy says the third option is the only one which addresses the safety concerns of the existing barrier system.
The project is estimated to cost a maximum of $175,000, which would be covered through the municipality’s transportation reserve and asset management reserve fund.
Council will consider authorizing the Director of Transportation to award the project as a limited tender during its meeting on Wednesday.
