Local police services in Grey Bruce have launched their festive RIDE campaigns to reduce impaired driving during the holiday season.
Grey Bruce OPP, South Bruce OPP, Hanover Police, Saugeen Shores Police, Owen Sound Police and West Grey Police gathered for the launch of the local RIDE campaign.
Police say, “During this period, the public can expect an increased police presence on roads and highways as officers conduct RIDE checks throughout our communities. Make it home safe this holiday season, drive sober.”
During the first week of the campaign throughout the whole OPP West Region (an area that spans Grey, Bruce, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Huron, Lambton, Norfolk, Oxford and Perth) 53 drivers were charged with impaired driving. There were eight warn-range suspensions.
OPP say since the start of the campaign, Ontario wide, officers have laid 229 impaired driving charges and 23 warn-range suspensions in 1804 RIDE check events in OPP-patrolled areas across Ontario.
The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
This year’s OPP Festive RIDE Campaign runs from November 20, 2025, to January 1, 2026. During the campaign, you can expect an increased OPP presence on West Region roads and highways as officers conduct RIDE initiatives
If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
