Pierce Mbuyi scored twice and added an assist to help the Owen Sound Attack to a 4-3 win over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday evening at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Nick Sykora and Tristan Delisle also scored for the Attack (20-24-1-3), which closed out January with their second straight win on home ice.
The Attack also moved two points up on the Storm for sole possession of sixth in the OHL’s Western Conference standings.
Ethan Miedema, Illia Shybinski and Grant Spada scored for Guelph (19-23-2-2).
Matthew Koprowski was stellar for the Attack, making 38 saves. The goaltender kept his team in the game through the first two periods as the Storm put plenty of rubber to the net, outshooting the Attack 29-13 in the first 40 minutes. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the third.
Mbuyi scored his second of the game just 19 seconds into the third to put the Attack ahead 3-2. And then five minutes later, Sykora sniped a wrist shot over the glove of Zach Jovanovski to make it 4-2 Attack.
Miedema brought the Storm within one, but that was as close as they would get.
Koprowski made 38 saves in the win, while Jovanovski stopped 20 taking the loss. Guelph outshot Owen Sound 41-24 while going 1 for 3 on the power play; the Attack were 1 for 4.
Owen Sound opens a three-game eastern trip on Thursday against Peterborough Petes.
