Northern Bruce Peninsula is going to consider undertaking an engagement process to implement a Bed and Breakfast Licensing policy.
The policy would be similar to the already existing Short-Term Accommodation (STA) licensing program, and would impact bed and breakfast establishments in the municipality.
Before Northern Bruce Peninsula can move forward with implementation, it will need to launch a community engagement process to reflect community needs.
Both residents and operators will be invited to participate and provide feedback.
CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West says, “The primary objectives of the engagement process are to provide a structured means of gathering feedback on key licensing components, such as the appropriate fee structure, occupancy limits, health and safety requirements, and enforcement mechanisms.”
Staff will take the feedback and consolidate it into a draft licensing policy. The document will then be posted online for a 30-day comment period.
Council is also being presented with the option to have staff amend the municipality’s zoning by-law to remove the requirement of bed and breakfast businesses be licensed.
Council will consider moving ahead with the engagement process or not license local bed and breakfast businesses during its meeting on Monday.
