Hanover Police say a man faces more than a dozen charges after allegedly putting up a “violent struggle” during an arrest.
Police in the southern Grey County town say they were called to a residence on County Road 28 just prior to midnight this past Saturday (May 30) for a report of an unwanted male attempting to enter the home of his former partner.
Officers arrived on scene to spot the male suspect trying to smash his way into the home with a stone through a rear patio door.
“When confronted, the suspect threw the stone at the officers attempting to strike them before fleeing the area,” Hanover Police allege. “Additional officers from the West Grey Police Service and the OPP were called to assist with containment.”
According to police, the suspect returned to the rear of the residence shortly after. Hanover Police say officers had to use a taser to take the man into custody after a “violent struggle.”
“While being escorted to the police cruiser, the suspect continued to resist and spat in the face of one of the escorting officers,” Hanover Police say.
A 34-year-old Hanover man was charged with 13 criminal offences, including break and enter with intent, mischief and assault a peace officer with a weapon.
Police did not identify the accused.
He was held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody.
