A boardwalk replacement project has been completed inside Owen Sound’s Harrison Park, allowing a once-popular trail to re-open.
A $179,000 rebuild of Weaver’s Creek boardwalk was recently completed, and the city marked the re-opening of Weaver’s Creek trail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week.
Weaver’s Creek boardwalk and trail is a walkway that starts near the Harrison Park pool and twists into the forest along the water, ending at an area with a view of Weaver’s Creek falls.
The old boardwalk closed in July 2023 after a tree fell and damaged it. The city decided then the trail would not re-open until the boardwalk could be fully replaced, as there were already safety concerns with other deteriorating sections.
The $179,000 revamp of the Weaver’s Creek boardwalk included full replacement, as well as some improvements to the natural trail sections of the path.
“The new boardwalk supports safe access through the creek valley while helping to protect the surrounding natural environment,” a release from city hall says.
