Nick Pellerin kicked a field goal in the final minute as the Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS) Wolves beat the St. Mary’s Mustangs 17-14.
OSDSS quarterback Tyson Copeland ran for both of his team’s touchdowns in the game, while St. Mary’s running back Colton Lunman rushed for both of his team’s majors.
It is the first Bluewater Athletic Association (BAA) championship for OSDSS since the amalgamation of Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute and West Hill Secondary School in 2016, and the first non-St. Mary’s champion since Saugeen District Secondary School won in 2014.
OSDSS also avenged a 31-6 loss to the Mustangs at the beginning of October, while handing the Mustangs their first loss of the season.
Both teams will compete at the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) regional championships later this month, with OSDSS playing at the AAA level and St. Mary’s at the AA/A level.
