Twenty-three years after it first opened, the McDonald’s in Meaford has finally been updated.
McDonald’s franchisee Steve Sgro marvelled at the restaurant’s new look.
“It’s a beautiful store now – everything is the latest edition, everything is up to date,” Sgro says. “There’s nothing from last year, never mind last decade.”
He says everything was renovated, from the bathrooms and lobby to behind the counter, but the newest feature is a double drive-thru.
“Our drive-thru before was just overloaded. No matter how fast we worked, we just couldn’t get more cars through,” Sgro says. “With the side-by-side drive-thru now, that will greatly expand how many cars we can serve.”
During the seven-week renovation period, Sgro says staff who moved to other locations were not only paid their regular wages, but were also reimbursed for their mileage. He even arranged drivers for employees who could not drive themselves work.
During the reopening ceremony, Sgro donated $5,000 to the Brightshores Health System foundation in Meaford.
Chief executive officer Amy McKinnon, who accepted the cheque, said Steve and Christine Sgro are community leaders who have been major supporters of Brightshores.
“The donation today will be used to help refurbish and upgrade the reflection room at the Meaford hospital,” McKinnon said. “It’s really a space for patients and their families to go and have some quiet time.”
