Owen Sound’s Kelso Beach at Nawash Park has been posted as unsafe for swimming.
Grey Bruce Public Health says routine water testing showed bacterial levels exceeding Ministry of Health standards.
Public Health says further beach water samples will be taken today. The no-swimming advisory will remain in place until further test results show bacterial levels have returned to a safe range for swimming.
“Residents and visitors should refrain from swimming or playing in the water at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park or let pets drink or play in the water until the no-swimming advisory is lifted,” Grey Bruce Public Health says in a statement.
Public Health says even if a beach is not posted as unsafe for swimming, it’s best to monitor water conditions in real-time and avoid swimming 24 to 48 hours after heavy rainfall, or if you can’t see your feet in waist-deep water.
Grey Bruce Public Health operates a beach water monitoring program during the summer months to test the water at high-use beaches in Bruce and Grey counties for E. coli levels. You can find more on the health unit’s recreational water monitoring program here.
