A veterans crosswalk in Tara is set to be installed this month.
The Tara Legion says it will be painted onto the road at the intersection of Yonge Street and Brook Street September 14th, weather permitting.
Later on, there will be an unveiling ceremony closer to Veteran’s Week in November.
The legion branch says in a statement, “The site of the Crosswalk is quite appropriate and will stand as a visible symbol of gratitude, remembrance, and a lasting tribute to those who served our nation, along with the contributions made by Canadian men and women.”
They add, “The Crosswalk will also play a role in educating future generations about historical conflicts, local veterans residing in the municipality, and many others who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It serves to remind both drivers and pedestrians of the courage and sacrifices of veterans, promoting a sense of national pride and respect.”
The Tara legion notes, “The Veterans Commemorative Crosswalk holds special significance as the Royal Canadian Legion commemorates its 100th anniversary this year, highlighting a century of service, support, remembrance, and commitment to veterans and our community.”
They say residents are invited to watch for the announcement of the unveiling, and to check out the site once it’s finished to see the commemorative crosswalk, “Taking a moment to pay tribute to the veterans whose service has shaped the freedoms we cherish today.”
